Local meteorologists advise against traveling to Seahawks-49ers due to ‘powerful’ storm

The 2023 NFL Playoffs begin with the Seattle Seahawks taking on the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday afternoon in Santa Clara. Usually a playoff game means the stadium is packed and the atmosphere is at its best, but don’t be surprised if it’s not a full house at Levi’s Stadium.

As reported earlier in the week, the weather is expected to be hazardous, with heavy rain and gusty winds expected throughout the day. There has been widespread flooding across California in recent weeks due to a series of killer storms, including in Santa Clara. Parts of Santa Clara County (generally closer to bodies of water) now have evacuation warnings.

Unlike previous storms, most of the precipitation will occur during the day and continue throughout the Seahawks vs. 49ers.

Brayden Murdock and Cindy Palmer, National Weather Service meteorologists based in the Bay Area, told SFGate of the potential dangers of driving on Saturday and that traveling during what has been described as a storm is not recommended.” powerful”.

“There’s going to be some moderate to heavy rain in this strip,” Murdock said. “So unfortunately that means water can build up on the roads, which makes it particularly dangerous for travel.”

“I wouldn’t recommend being outside, you know, just for the potential for flooding,” Palmer also warned. “We don’t want to see people getting stuck in flood waters and things like that.”

The entire Bay Area is under flood watch through Monday, so if you’re in the area and want to watch this Wild Card game in person, exercise extreme caution as these conditions are not to be flouted.
