But director James Cameron is preparing to show another side of the Na’vi community in the upcoming Avatar sequel.

Speaking to French outlet 20 Minutes, Cameron, 68, outlined his intentions to introduce new communities to the franchise and showcase a darker side of the Na’vi.

The upcoming movie will show “different cultures than I’ve shown before,” Cameron told the outlet, according to Total Film.

‘The fire will be represented by the “people of ashes”. I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides,” he explained.

“In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In Avatar 3, we’ll do the opposite,” Cameron said.

“We will also explore new worlds, while continuing the story of the main characters,” he said. “I can say that the last games will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal.

The highly anticipated sequel to Avatar has officially overtaken Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 for 15th place on the all-time list.

The film took a huge leap in China over the weekend with a 42% jump from the previous weekend.

The three main foreign markets for the film are: China with $152.8 million, $95.1 million in France and $74.9 million in South Korea.

While Avatar: The Way of Water is by far the biggest movie of the season, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has done well over the past two weeks since its Christmas release.
